A Visual Journey
Elizabeth-Jane Witt (EJ) discovered her passion for art after moving from Nashville, Tennessee, to San José del Cabo in 2021. With a background in cultural anthropology and archaeology, she developed a deep appreciation for diverse cultures and immersive experiences. While excavating at a cave site in Dordogne, France, EJ had the rare opportunity to visit the ancient Lascaux cave paintings. Seeing these early masterpieces firsthand left an indelible mark on her artistic vision, shaping her understanding of art’s ability to transcend time and place.
Despite this early inspiration, it wasn’t until her move to Mexico that EJ fully embraced her lifelong dream of creating art. The dramatic landscapes of Los Cabos—its breathtaking sunrises, fiery sunsets, and the ever-changing ocean—became the catalyst for her work. Her seascapes capture the raw beauty and energy of Baja California Sur, reflecting both a deep appreciation for her new home and a desire to translate its magic onto canvas.
Artist Statment
Art is both a mirror and a window—reflecting our shared concerns while inviting deeper exploration. With a background in archaeology, I create paintings that feel both ancient and immediate, reminding us that humanity’s impact on the world is neither new nor irreversible. Through texture, form, and atmosphere, my work captures the tension between permanence and change, offering a space for reflection in a world that moves too quickly.
Each piece is a conversation—an invitation to pause, reconsider, and connect with the landscapes we shape and inherit.
